Celebrating 100 Years of Jewish Culture in Beacon

  • Beacon Historical Society 61 Leonard Street Beacon, NY, 12508 United States (map)

Samuel Beskin, founding member of BHA and Beacon’s second mayor (1918-1921)

Celebrating 100 Years of Jewish Culture in Beacon exhibit commemorates 100 years of Jewish history, culture, and community in Beacon and the Hudson Valley. The exhibit features stories, photos, and artifacts drawn from the archives and oral history interviews done with living members in the Jewish community as well as research on past leaders. Topics include immigration, the founding of the synagogue and cemetery, leadership, religious life and education, the changing role of women at BHA, and veterans who served during WWII. A Yiddish translator was engaged to help in the research of articles and advertisements about Beacon that appeared in late 19th and early 20th Century Yiddish publications.

This free exhibition runs from April 2-30. An opening reception of the exhibition will be held on Thursday, April 7 from 4-6pm. No reservations are needed. Masks are required.
