Ballots and Palettes: How Local Women Fought for Equality Through Politics & Art a Century Ago
Join Bill Jeffway, Executive Director of the Dutchess County Historical Society, and Melodye Moore, trustee and collections committee chair at DCHS as they examine women’s right to vote and Dutchess County and Beacon’s unique role in early feminist actions. A special focus will be on Caroline Morgan Clowes of LaGrange, a highly successful painter of local Dutchess County scenes who was featured prominently at the 1876 US Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia. Learn about the efforts that led to the restoration of Clowes’ paintings and her legacy. After the presentation, there will be an opportunity for Q & A with Bill and Melodye.
